INSIDE THE AUBURN TIGERS
Miller Rewrites Auburn Sprint Record Book
Tempe, Arizona-Junior Coby Miller is now officially the fastest man in Auburn University history by breaking two prestigious school records at the Sun Angel Classic at Arizona State University.

Miller won the 100-meter dash in 10.03, breaking the record set in 1977 by Olympic gold medal winner Harvey Glance. It was his first 100 that he has run this season. (Miller is featured in the April issue of Inside the Auburn Tigers magazine.)

At the same meet, Miller ran a 20.21 to break the school 200 meters mark of 20.29 held by All-American Daron Council that was set in 1985. Earlier this season, Miller set a school record of 20.68 in winning the 200 at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Indianapolis.

"That was a tremendous effort by Coby and it couldn't happen to a better person," Auburn head coach Ralph Spry said. "That's Coby's first 100 of the year and he had very little wind and I think he'll improve upon that as we near the SECs and NCAAs."

At an overall impressive weekend for Auburn track and field athletes, sophomore Hannah Johnson broke her own school record by pole vaulting 11 feet, 7 3/4 inches at the Sierra Providence UTEP Invitational in El Paso, Tex. At the same meet, freshman Gabor Mate won the discus with a throw of 194 feet, one inch. His 202-4 throw earlier this season is still the best nationally among collegians.

In Tempe, freshman Avard Moncur won the 400 meters in 45.50, the fastest run for a Tiger in that event in seven years. Other strong performances in Tempe included sophomore Vanessa Johnson winning the long jump in 19 feet, six inches and winning the 4x100 relay in 45.45 with Shannaine Osbourne, Sashanie Simpson and Jennifer Wilson. Freshman Ryan Kavanah won the hammer throw with a personal record of 185 feet, six inches.
