Miller, who had twice broken the old school mark held by Harvey Glance, was clocked in 20.68. "This was the most perfect race I have ever run," Miller says. "The key to the race was the last turn. I have worked on that part of the race all season and today it paid off."

Coach Ralph Spry said, "Coby's national championship is a credit to his hard work and dedication. The scary thing is he has another year. Like I've said before, this couldn't happen to a nicer young man."

Auburn finished 15th in the team competition, which was won by Arkansas with 65 points. Miller scored 14.25 of AU's 15 points by finishing fifth in the 60 meters in 6.65 seconds and competing on the 4x400 relay team that finished eighth.

The top AU woman at the nationals, Vonette Dixon, was fourth in the 55 hurdles. The Lady Tigers scored four points, which tied them for 43rd. Texas won the women's competition with 61 points.
